I-95 Power Repairs/Road Closures Tuesday Afternoon

April 2, 2019 (6:55 p.m.):

Repairs Update: I-95 is now open in both directions. Electric crews are just putting the finishing touches on repair work for the power lines. Thank you everyone for your patience and understanding.

April 2, 2019 (4:12 p.m.):

Repairs Update: I-95 is currently open. Groton Utilities repair crews have completed the first part of repairs from this morning’s outage. Beginning at 6:00 p.m. this evening I-95 will close again for approximately two hours as we complete our work. Please plan accordingly. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we perform these difficult tasks.

April 2, 2019 (2:15 pm.):

Repairs to the damaged power lines from this morning’s crane accident are due to begin momentarily. Accordingly, I-95 South will be closed after Exit 88 and I-95 North after Exit 87. Please plan to use the back roads (Route 184, Route 1, etc.). It is anticipated that repairs will take approximately two hours. Power should remain up throughout the repairs.

I-95 Power Outage Public Statement

At approximately 3:39 a.m. a State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) contractor and crane operator accidentally hit and tore down two of Groton Utilities’ power lines. The accident effected power to the Midway Oval, Groton Long Point, Mumford Cove areas of the Town of Groton along with Fishers Island New York.

Groton Utilities Electric Operations crews restored power at approximately 7:29 a.m. by rerouting power from alternative feeds.

All Groton Utilities’ customers should have power at this time. Anyone without power is asked to contact Groton Utilities at (860)-446-4000.

Groton Utilities is coordinating with the State of Connecticut Police along with the State DOT to make repairs to the fallen lines across I-95.
