Groton Utilities Adjusts Water Rates for January 1st

Home Posted on October 29, 2025

curb box1Groton Utilities never likes to raise rates of any kind. When we do, it is because it is absolutely necessary, which is where we find ourselves now. In a world where everything keeps getting more expensive, the same goes for maintaining and upgrading our water infrastructure, the purchase of chemicals, along with increased costs of labor and expertise.

As a public, not-for-profit utility, rates must cover the true cost of service — no more, no less. If revenue doesn’t keep pace with costs, the system risks deferred maintenance, service cuts, or quality issues.

Groton Utilities is very sensitive to any pricing adjustments but unfortunately from time to time we find it necessary.

For the average residential customer using 500 cubic feet of water, the monthly bill will see an approximate increase of $3.00. The majority of our customers, including commercial and industrial users, can expect an annual percentage increase of between 5% and 12% per year. These changes are set to take effect on January 1, 2026, and continue through 2028.

Even after the adjustment, Groton Utilities water rates remain among the most affordable in the region. Every dollar we collect stays right here in our community, reinvested in the system that serves you - not shareholders.
